8 Life Changing Tips
Prebiotic foods (fermentable fiber) are what feeds your gut flora “the friendly bacteria”. Gut flora is the bacteria found in your digestive tract – aka – “the gut”. In order to maintain a healthy digestive system which is the root of ALL health, we need a balance of 85 percent friendly bacteria and 15 percent unfriendly bacteria. When we feed ourselves prebiotic foods we are feeding the friendly bacteria in the gut. Great prebiotic foods include but are not limited to: bananas, apples, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries and raisins.
Vegetables rich in prebiotic content include artichokes, asparagus, jicama, red and white onions, leeks, garlic, spinach, dandelion greens and tomatoes. My personal favorite are berries I include them in everything I can, I eat them raw, add them to my salad, I cook chicken with cranberries, add them to my smoothies – this works for me.
