4 EASY STEPS TO MOVE FORWARD IN YOUR CAREER

You’re at the office, clocked in and ready with your morning coffee. Before you know it, five o’clock has rolled around and you can’t help but wonder where the time went. What was supposed to be a productive day flew by with little to show for it. Often, the noise that surrounds us can derail our focus before we even realize it.

As a result, we lose track of our goals, projects take longer to complete, and it gets harder to move forward. The good news is that there are solutions! Check out the following tips to get rid of those distractions keeping you from progressing:

1) Get rid of the clutter:

Physical Clutter

Are you really going to work on that budget analysis right now? If not, you’re probably not going to touch that stack of books anytime soon. Though we might think having these things out in the open will serve as a reminder to get them done, they may actually be hindering your productivity. There may be items on your desk that get you visually overwhelmed and though you might be focusing your eyesight on a specific area, something will still draw your attention. Visual distractions can be reduced by clearing your desk, your walls, and your home of unnecessary possessions. Cleaning up at the end of each day helps you remove clutter and improves your focus.

Digital Clutter

Alright, so you’ve gotten rid of your desk clutter so we’re all set, right? Not quite yet. Organizing your mind means organizing everything! Desktop icons, backgrounds, programs, apps, along with other digital distractions get in the way of getting your work done. Organize your files into the fewest possible folders and keep your computer desktop as clean as your actual desk.

2) Be smart about your e-mail notifications

We’ve all wasted time focusing on that unimportant email that somehow ends up setting us back in our whole day . You figure you’ll stay on top of everything by enabling email notifications on your desktop and next thing you know, your whole day is spent dismissing notifications – or worse – shopping that “ONE DAY ONLY exclusive sale” that ends in 4 hours, hurry before you miss out! Don’t let email takeover your life. Minimize the distractions by:

  • Turning off automatic email notifications for everyone and allowing them  ONLY for important contacts that you can’t afford to miss
  • Checking your email at specific times throughout the day
  • Having less than two email accounts
  • Unsubscribing from advertisements and newsletters that are no longer of value to you

3) Schedule phone calls

How many days have slipped out of your hands because you were bombarded with phone calls? Yes, you’re working but by constantly answering your phone, you’re taking time away from crossing out tasks on your to-do list. Avoid taking every call you receive as it comes and instead, establish a specific time each day to return calls and messages.

4) Organize your environment:

We mentioned clearing your desk of clutter but if you want to take it one step further after you’ve done this, organize your entire environment! You’re only leaving a few things on your desk at this point, so make the most of them. Organize everything in a way that will improve your productivity. For example:

  • Position important documents or supplies within your reach
  • Label your shelves
  • Use folders for different articles and files instead of having them loose in your drawers
  • Store any books or magazines in a box or a drawer
  • Sort your mail by topic or sender

 

Investing a little effort into organizing your workstation will save you time in the long run. The more organized your desk is, the less time you’ll spend shuffling through piles of paperwork and the more time you’ll have to actually progress in your career!

HEALTHY THANKSGIVING ALTERNATIVES

We have great news for you guys! We don’t have to start gaining holiday weight just because Thanksgiving is here! Turkey is already a recommended lean protein, so why should we start putting on those holiday pounds? You can enjoy the holiday just as much, without the post-dinner guilt, by making the following small changes to your side dishes:

Mashed (Sweet) Potatoes

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Pierce each sweet potato in several places with a fork.
  2. Place directly on the oven rack and roast until soft, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  3. Transfer to a cutting board; let stand until cool enough to handle, about 10 minutes.
  4. Slip off the skins and cut the sweet potatoes into 1-inch slices; transfer to a large bowl. Add butter.
  5. Smash the sweet potatoes with a potato masher or fork until fluffy but some lumps remain.
  6. Add maple syrup, chili powder, ground cumin, ginger, salt and pepper; stir to combine

Gluten-Free Stuffing

Preheat oven to 275°F.

  1. Spread cornbread on a large rimmed baking sheet. Bake until dry to the touch, about 30 minutes. Let cool.
  2. Increase oven temperature to 350°F.
  3. Cook sausage in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, stirring and breaking up with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 5 minutes. Add onion, celery and garlic and cook until softened and translucent, 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
  4. Add the cornbread, sage and pepper to the skillet and gently toss to combine. Pour broth over the mixture. Cover with foil.
  5. Bake the stuffing until steaming hot, about 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking until lightly crisped on top, about 15 minutes more.

Green Beans

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Place a large bowl of ice water next to the stove.
  2. Add half the green beans to the boiling water and cook until tender-crisp, about 4 minutes. Transfer the beans with a slotted spoon to the ice water to cool. Repeat with the remaining beans. Place a kitchen towel on a baking sheet and use a slotted spoon to transfer the beans from the ice water; blot dry with another towel.
  3. Just before serving, heat oil in a large Dutch oven or large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the green beans and stir. Add parsley, tarragon, salt and pepper and cook, stirring, until heated through, 1 to 3 minutes.

These slightest changes can save you enough calories to stay fit throughout the holiday season. The next couple of months should be full of joy, not guilt. Go into the New Year feeling your best and treating your body the way it deserves to be treated!

HOW DO WE SURVIVE DONALD TRUMP?

The impossible has just become a reality. Donald Trump is mere months away from becoming the leader of our country and few of us believed that this would ever happen. Tensions are high but the fact is that this is our reality and it’s time to start looking at how we will move forward.

Accept that we are no longer in control of the results

We voted and we did our part but after that, it’s out of our hands. We can’t always get what we want and the first step is to get over that. Trying to be in control of every situation is enough to drive anyone insane. What we can control, however, is our reaction to the change.

Don’t be a victim of the circumstances

We can not leave our happiness or our destiny in anyone’s hands but our own. You have the power to create the life you want regardless of who is sitting in the oval office. We have always had rules and regulations that we disagree with and we learn to adapt to our circumstances one way or another.

Don’t take it personally

We can not take everything that Trump has said to heart. We can’t let his comments affect how we see ourselves or how we see each other. Keep in mind that yes, he was running a campaign, but he was also putting on a show for the media and for the public. Remember your value and don’t give his words enough importance to knock you down.

Focus on yourself and not on pointing the finger

Blaming Trump for the racism that exists in our country doesn’t do any good. Blaming his supporters for the hatred that exists doesn’t do any good. Focus on yourself and the love that you have to spread. Hate can not be defeated with more hate. Now is the time when our values and our education will be put to the test. Trust that you are strong and wise enough to push through this.

Do your part

Take action and add your grain of sand to the vast beach that surrounds you. Take the power back. Share your love and your talents with the world to fight the prejudice that exists in our country. Be the beacon of hope that you and the rest of the nation desperately need.

No individual owns this country, regardless of his/her position in office. America was and will continue to be the land of immigrants – the land of opportunity. Don’t give up your power to keep it that way. Do your part and fight for your values. Fight for your families.

I SLEPT WITH MY COWORKER AND NOW HE’S TELLING EVERYONE

You went out with your coworker and now he’s telling the entire office that you’re easy. What do you do? When you enter into any relationship with someone, the two of you form a silent pact of respect, loyalty, and confidentiality. Your coworker has both disrespected you and broken that pact. What can you do when this happens?

1) Understand Where They’re Coming From

The first thing to realize is that broken people break others. If this coworker broke your pact and he’s speaking badly of you, he is speaking out of pain. It may be pain from what happened between you two or it may be completely unrelated. This doesn’t justify what he’s doing, but it’s important to understand that the reason he’s doing this is because he doesn’t know how to handle the situation.

2) Don’t Sink to Their Level

Just because they spoke badly of you doesn’t mean that you turn around and do the same. If you know who you are and you’re not a disrespectful person, don’t let your coworker turn you into one. Don’t give anyone the power to change your values and affect your way of life. Stay true to your character regardless of the circumstances.

3) Stop Trying to Control Your Circumstances

You can’t control what your coworkers think or say about you no matter how hard you try. What you do have the power to control is your reaction to the situation. Yes you could dwell on what happened but you also have the ability to learn. Nothing happens by chance. Every circumstance carries a message. Instead of allowing your emotions to control you, take this message and learn from it. Maybe it’s given you clarity on what type of partner you want. Maybe this is the catalyst that helps you make the change that you’ve always wanted to. Whatever it is, focus on the message, not the messenger.

4) Don’t Justify Yourself to Anyone

You know who you are and you know exactly what happened. When you accept yourself, you don’t owe anyone any justifications and the more you explain yourself, the guiltier you look. Time will take care of everything, so let it. Focus on yourself. If you realized you need to make changes in your life, now is the time.

Ultimately, you control how you let this affect you. You decide how you move forward. If there’s truth in what he says, then decide whether or not you want to change. If you do, then stop waiting. Your repetition becomes your reputation, so if something needs to change, make it happen. If not, accept yourself for who you are and don’t give anyone the power to shame you. If it’s not true, don’t let the lies bother you. You know your value and you know who you are.

No one can take that away from you.

BELIEFS AND VALUES

Beliefs systems are the key to your success or failure

From beliefs come behaviors. So a wrong belief can lead to wrong behaviors & decisions.

Personal example. I had (and it can still come up) a belief that I could never do enough or be good enough. This false belief would drive me to burn myself out, neglect important people, my life and to carry guilt, shame, and self-condemnation. At first, I thought it was because I wasn’t disciplined enough (false belief) so I would add more on myself to fix this issue. But it wouldn’t last or it would add to my belief that I wasn’t doing enough. It was a vicious cycle. Now I have gained freedom in that area by changing my belief. I work from love and not for it. I operate from victory, not for it. My belief has changed, therefore my behavior changed. Just trying to change your behavior won’t usually last unless the root reason or wrong belief is dealt with.

Beliefs are assumptions that we have made about ourselves, others & the world around us. Beliefs become our rules – our expectations. Beliefs are also are things that we need in order for us to feel a certain way, whether it’s loved, happy, successful etc.  Let’s say there is a mother that has a belief that if she’s a good mother then her children will always behave a certain way. But the reality is, kids are not always going to behave that certain way. These beliefs are usually not based on reality but rather our past experience, or something we learned when we were growing up. You can imagine how this false belief can affect the mother and even her children.

Beliefs are rules, but values are emotional states that you think are important to either experience or avoid. They are states that we either want to move towards or away from. If I ask you “what do you value?” You my might say your spouse, your children, your house, or your car but actually, what you value are the feelings that those things bring you.

For example, if you value your family, it’s really the feeling of security and love. If you value your car it’s the feeling of adventure, freedom, protection, or status.

The things we value are actually behind these objects or people.

When values & beliefs don’t agree it will cause unrest in your life.

If you value the connection with your family when you get home from work but you have a belief that you must work 60 hours in order to be successful, this will cause a conflict either way.

Don’t just think your beliefs & values are right, you must be brutally honest with yourself. Oprah for example.. She is a very successful woman who helps a lot of people in the process. Yet in an interview she said that she won’t “feel” successful until she is totally comfortable with who she is. Oprah was abandoned by her parents when she was younger and was sexually assaulted so this belief she has is setting her up for unrest. If those beliefs and values are not changed, she could go her whole life never feeling “okay” with herself.

Beliefs and values affect our quality of life and they can be changed. Write down at least two areas in which your values and beliefs are not in agreement.

Simply through 15 chapters that are very fast, teaches us step by step what you need to know about a man about how he thinks, what excites you and what you dislike, what attitudes like to enamorarlos and especially to keep them in our arms.

It is a very funny book that many women can become an essential guide for us correctly choose our mate and especially to turn away from men who just want to hang out.

In short, please abused, open your eyes and decreed that love opens its doors having an excellent attitude.
